Romanian Caves

Romania has rich and varied karst formations and over 12,000 caves, although it has only 4500 square kilometers occupied by limestone. Much of the over 1000 km of galleries, shafts and rooms, some true underground palaces, are located in Transylvania.

The most interesting and spectacular karst phenomena of surface and underground in Transylvania are concentrated in Padurea Craiului Mountains, Bihor Mountains, limestone mountains of Retezat and Sebes, Rodna Mountains and Persani Mountains.

The cave was man's first home, and back home always generates strong emotions.
